NoCo HBA’s 2020 Endorsements for County Commissioners

The Northern Colorado Home Builders Association has released its candidate endorsements for county commissioner in Weld and Larimer counties. NoCo HBA is a nonpartisan organization that endorses candidates based on who will best serve the homebuilding industry. NoCo HBA Builders Regulatory Council members conducted extensive interviews with candidates prior to these endorsements. The Board of Directors then gave approval. The council welcomes all candidates to meet with the council and be considered for endorsement.

Weld County Board of County Commissioners: District #1 – Mike Freeman

Freeman is the current chairman of the board. He was first elected in 2012 and re-elected in 2016. He’s a small business owner/entrepreneur with a pro-business voting record. He has significant BOCC experience and is committed to defending agriculture, and oil and gas. He was born and raised in Weld County.

Weld County Board of County Commissioners: District #3 – Lori Saine

Saine is a former member of the Colorado House of Representatives. She co-sponsored HB17-1279, concerning construction defects arbitration, a bill supported by the Colorado Association of Home Builders. She defends liberty and individual rights and promises to “protect the way of life in Weld County.”

Weld County Board of County Commissioners: At-Large Seat – Perry Buck

Buck served in the Colorado State House of Representatives. She’s a long-time, reliable supporter and friend to the construction and homebuilding industry. She co-sponsored HB17-1279. Buck’s voting record supports business, private-property rights and individual liberty.

Larimer County Commissioner District #2 – Bob McCluskey

McCluskey grew up and ran a family business in Fort Collins. He served on the City Council and as a member of the Colorado State House of Representatives. He understands the challenge of “attainable-priced housing” and favors bringing good jobs so people can buy housing. His campaign priorities include keeping taxes low and promoting government efficiency.

Larimer County Commissioner District #3 – Ben Aste

Aste is a fourth-generation Larimer County resident and small business owner/entrepreneur from Loveland. He supports water storage projects to meet the needs of a growing county. He mentioned “relaxing fees” on the construction industry to promote attainable or achievable housing prices. He adamantly supports helping small businesses recover post-pandemic. He promises to be a “budget hawk,” promoting efficient and effective use of county resources.

Coloradans will vote for county commissioner during the general election. Ballots for Weld County will be mailed out the week of Oct. 9 and ballots for Larimer County will be mailed out the week of Oct. 12.
